Céline Foster Walker

(Author of this work)

Céline Essena Bridgit Foster, born to Marie Elizabeth Foster and Ernest Alonso Foster in St. Lucia in the Caribbean.

Married the late Dr. Arthur Bertram Cuthbert Walker of Stanford, California.

They had one daughter, Heather Marie Melanie Walker.

About forty four years ago, Céline became an american. She has a B.A. from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Southern California. She spent many years at Stanford University in the capacity of Chief of Science and Technical Libraries, leaving there in the 1980's to become Executive Director of the United Nations Advisory Committee for the Coordination of Information Sciences in Geneva, Switzerland. She is presently retired and lives in California.

As the reader of her book will note, she stumbled quite accidently on information about the Gaillard family during a 1997 trip to St. Lucia. Starting with this information and using a séjour in Toulouse, France as an opportunity, she sought out primary sources on information on this family, with the earliest known citing being in Fougères in the Department of Ille and Villaine. Much of this information is presented in her book: The 19th century Gaillard de Laubenque family of France and St. Lucia, which is due for publication in early 2005.
